About the Contest

All bird watchers know that we need to encourage more young people to get outdoors to experience nature. What better way to experience nature than by watching birds? The birding experience, in turn, can be greatly enhanced by great optics.

Many of us started out as young birders with a pair of hand-me-down binoculars. In some cases these binos were foggy, heavy, and optically not very good. Think how amazing it would have been to have had truly fine optics when we were learning our birds and first getting into birding!

Leica and Bird Watcher's Digest are teaming up to give one young birder in North America that very opportunity by giving them a new Trinovid binocular.

Do you know a young birder?

Now through May 18, 2012 we're accepting nominations of young birders between ages 12 and 18 who would benefit from a wonderful new pair of Leica binoculars. Just send us your nominee's name, age, a description of his or her current binoculars, and why you feel your nominee should win the Leica Trinovids. Feel free to include any other relevant facts about your nominee (favorite bird, future plans, involvement in the local bird club, etc). We will select and announce a winner in the July/August 2012 issue of BWD.
